23. 예수께서 성전에 들어가 가르치실새 대제사장들과 백성의 장로들이 나아와 이르되 네가 무슨 권위로 이런 일을 하느냐 또 누가 이 권위를 주었느냐

  Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?"

24. 예수께서 대답하시되 나도 한 말을 너희에게 물으리니 너희가 대답하면 나도 무슨 권위로 이런 일을 하는지 이르리라

  Jesus replied, "I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

25. 요한의 세례가 어디로부터 왔느냐 하늘로부터냐 사람으로부터냐 그들이 서로 의논하여 이르되 만일 하늘로부터라 하면 어찌하여 그를 믿지 아니하였느냐 할 것이요

  John's baptism--where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or from men?" They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?'

26. 만일 사람으로부터라 하면 모든 사람이 요한을 선지자로 여기니 백성이 무섭다 하여

  But if we say, 'From men'--we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet."

27. 예수께 대답하여 이르되 우리가 알지 못하노라 하니 예수께서 이르시되 나도 무슨 권위로 이런 일을 하는지 너희에게 이르지 아니하리라

  So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then he said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

28. 그러나 너희 생각에는 어떠하냐 어떤 사람에게 두 아들이 있는데 맏아들에게 가서 이르되 얘 오늘 포도원에 가서 일하라 하니

  "What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.'

29. 대답하여 이르되 아버지 가겠나이다 하더니 가지 아니하고

  "'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.

30. 둘째 아들에게 가서 또 그와 같이 말하니 대답하여 이르되 싫소이다 하였다가 그 후에 뉘우치고 갔으니

  "Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, 'I will, sir,' but he did not go.

31. 그 둘 중의 누가 아버지의 뜻대로 하였느냐 이르되 둘째 아들이니이다 예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 세리들과 창녀들이 너희보다 먼저 하나님의 나라에 들어가리라

  "Which of the two did what his father wanted?" "The first," they answered. Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.

32. 요한이 의의 도로 너희에게 왔거늘 너희는 그를 믿지 아니하였으되 세리와 창녀는 믿었으며 너희는 이것을 보고도 끝내 뉘우쳐 믿지 아니하였도다

  For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. 

1. 믿음이 연약한 자를 너희가 받되 그의 의견을 비판하지 말라

  Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters.

2. 어떤 사람은 모든 것을 먹을 만한 믿음이 있고 믿음이 연약한 자는 채소만 먹느니라

  One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.

3. 먹는 자는 먹지 않는 자를 업신여기지 말고 먹지 않는 자는 먹는 자를 비판하지 말라 이는 하나님이 그를 받으셨음이라

  The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him.

4. 남의 하인을 비판하는 너는 누구냐 그가 서 있는 것이나 넘어지는 것이 자기 주인에게 있으매 그가 세움을 받으리니 이는 그를 세우시는 권능이 주께 있음이라

  Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

5. 어떤 사람은 이 날을 저 날보다 낫게 여기고 어떤 사람은 모든 날을 같게 여기나니 각각 자기 마음으로 확정할지니라

  One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

6.  날을 중히 여기는 자도 주를 위하여 중히 여기고 먹는 자도 주를 위하여 먹으니 이는 하나님께 감사함이요 먹지 않는 자도 주를 위하여 먹지 아니하며 하나님께 감사하느니라

  He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

7.  우리 중에 누구든지 자기를 위하여 사는 자가 없고 자기를 위하여 죽는 자도 없도다

  For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone.

8. 우리가 살아도 주를 위하여 살고 죽어도 주를 위하여 죽나니 그러므로 사나 죽으나 우리가 주의 것이로다

  If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

9. 이를 위하여 그리스도께서 죽었다가 다시 살아나셨으니 곧 죽은 자와 산 자의 주가 되려 하심이라

  For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

10. 네가 어찌하여 네 형제를 비판하느냐 어찌하여 네 형제를 업신여기느냐 우리가 다 하나님의 심판대 앞에 서리라

  You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat.

11. 기록되었으되 주께서 이르시되 내가 살았노니 모든 무릎이 내게 꿇을 것이요 모든 혀가 하나님께 자백하리라 하였느니라

  It is written: "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.'"

12. 이러므로 우리 각 사람이 자기 일을 하나님께 직고하리라

  So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. 

8. 피차 사랑의 빚 외에는 아무에게든지 아무 빚도 지지 말라 남을 사랑하는 자는 율법을 다 이루었느니라

  Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

9. 간음하지 말라, 살인하지 말라, 도둑질하지 말라, 탐내지 말라 한 것과 그 외에 다른 계명이 있을지라도 네 이웃을 네 자신과 같이 사랑하라 하신 그 말씀 가운데 다 들었느니라

  The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

10. 사랑은 이웃에게 악을 행하지 아니하나니 그러므로 사랑은 율법의 완성이니라

  Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

11. 또한 너희가 이 시기를 알거니와 자다가 깰 때가 벌써 되었으니 이는 이제 우리의 구원이 처음 믿을 때보다 가까웠음이라

  And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

12. 밤이 깊고 낮이 가까웠으니 그러므로 우리가 어둠의 일을 벗고 빛의 갑옷을 입자

  The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

13. 낮에와 같이 단정히 행하고 방탕하거나 술 취하지 말며 음란하거나 호색하지 말며 다투거나 시기하지 말고

  Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

14. 오직 주 예수 그리스도로 옷 입고 정욕을 위하여 육신의 일을 도모하지 말라

  Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 

21. 이 때로부터 예수 그리스도께서 자기가 예루살렘에 올라가 장로들과 대제사장들과 서기관들에게 많은 고난을 받고 죽임을 당하고 제삼일에 살아나야 할 것을 제자들에게 비로소 나타내시니

  From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

22. 베드로가 예수를 붙들고 항변하여 이르되 주여 그리 마옵소서 이 일이 결코 주께 미치지 아니하리이다

  Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!"

23. 예수께서 돌이키시며 베드로에게 이르시되 사탄아 내 뒤로 물러 가라 너는 나를 넘어지게 하는 자로다 네가 하나님의 일을 생각하지 아니하고 도리어 사람의 일을 생각하는도다 하시고

  Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

24. 이에 예수께서 제자들에게 이르시되 누구든지 나를 따라오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따를 것이니라

  Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

25.  누구든지 제 목숨을 구원하고자 하면 잃을 것이요 누구든지 나를 위하여 제 목숨을 잃으면 찾으리라

  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.

26. 사람이 만일 온 천하를 얻고도 제 목숨을 잃으면 무엇이 유익하리요 사람이 무엇을 주고 제 목숨과 바꾸겠느냐

  What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

27. 인자가 아버지의 영광으로 그 천사들과 함께 오리니 그 때에 각 사람이 행한 대로 갚으리라

  For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.

28. 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 여기 서 있는 사람 중에 죽기 전에 인자가 그 왕권을 가지고 오는 것을 볼 자들도 있느니라

  I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." 

2:1 레위 가족 중 한 사람이 가서 레위 여자에게 장가 들어

     Now a man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman,

2:2 그 여자가 임신하여 아들을 낳으니 그가 잘 생긴 것을 보고 석 달 동안 그를 숨겼으나

     and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.

2:3 더 숨길 수 없게 되매 그를 위하여 갈대 상자를 가져다가 역청과 나무 진을 칠하고 아기를 거기 담아 나일 강 가 갈대 사이에 두고

     But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.

2:4 그의 누이가 어떻게 되는지를 알려고 멀리 섰더니

     His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.

2:5 바로의 딸이 목욕하러 나일 강으로 내려오고 시녀들은 나일 강 가를 거닐 때에 그가 갈대 사이의 상자를 보고 시녀를 보내어 가져다가

     Then Pharaoh's daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the river bank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her slave girl to get it.

2:6 열고 그 아기를 보니 아기가 우는지라 그가 그를 불쌍히 여겨 이르되 이는 히브리 사람의 아기로다

She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. "This is one of the Hebrew babies," she said.

2:7 그의 누이가 바로의 딸에게 이르되 내가 가서 당신을 위하여 히브리 여인 중에서 유모를 불러다가 이 아기에게 젖을 먹이게 하리이까

     Then his sister asked Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?"

2:8 바로의 딸이 그에게 이르되 가라 하매 그 소녀가 가서 그 아기의 어머니를 불러오니

     "Yes, go," she answered. And the girl went and got the baby's mother.

2:9 바로의 딸이 그에게 이르되 이 아기를 데려다가 나를 위하여 젖을 먹이라 내가 그 삯을 주리라 여인이 아기를 데려다가 젖을 먹이더니

     Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you." So the woman took the baby and nursed him.

2:10     그 아기가 자라매 바로의 딸에게로 데려가니 그가 그의 아들이 되니라 그가 그의 이름을 모세라 하여 이르되 이는 내가 그를 물에서 건져내었음이라 하였더라

     When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, "I drew him out of the water." 

1. 요셉이 시종하는 자들 앞에서 그 정을 억제하지 못하여 소리 질러 모든 사람을 자기에게서 물러가라 하고 그 형제들에게 자기를 알리니 그 때에 그와 함께 한 다른 사람이 없었더라

2. 요셉이 큰 소리로 우니 애굽 사람에게 들리며 바로의 궁중에 들리더라

3. 요셉이 그 형들에게 이르되 나는 요셉이라 내 아버지께서 아직 살아 계시니이까 형들이 그 앞에서 놀라서 대답하지 못하더라

4. 요셉이 형들에게 이르되 내게로 가까이 오소서 그들이 가까이 가니 이르되 나는 당신들의 아우 요셉이니 당신들이 애굽에 판 자라

5. 당신들이 나를 이 곳에 팔았다고 해서 근심하지 마소서 한탄하지 마소서 하나님이 생명을 구원하시려고 나를 당신들보다 먼저 보내셨나이다

6. 이 땅에 이 년 동안 흉년이 들었으나 아직 오 년은 밭갈이도 못하고 추수도 못할지라

7. 하나님이 큰 구원으로 당신들의 생명을 보존하고 당신들의 후손을 세상에 두시려고 나를 당신들보다 먼저 보내셨나니

8. 그런즉 나를 이리로 보낸 이는 당신들이 아니요 하나님이시라 하나님이 나를 바로에게 아버지로 삼으시고 그 온 집의 주로 삼으시며 애굽 온 땅의 통치자로 삼으셨나이다

9. 당신들은 속히 아버지께로 올라가서 아뢰기를 아버지의 아들 요셉의 말에 하나님이 나를 애굽 전국의 주로 세우셨으니 지체 말고 내게로 내려오사

10. 아버지의 아들들과 아버지의 손자들과 아버지의 양과 소와 모든 소유가 고센 땅에 머물며 나와 가깝게 하소서

11. 흉년이 아직 다섯 해가 있으니 내가 거기서 아버지를 봉양하리이다 아버지와 아버지의 가족과 아버지께 속한 모든 사람에게 부족함이 없도록 하겠나이다 하더라고 전하소서

12. 당신들의 눈과 내 아우 베냐민의 눈이 보는 바 당신들에게 이 말을 하는 것은 내 입이라

13. 당신들은 내가 애굽에서 누리는 영화와 당신들이 본 모든 것을 다 내 아버지께 아뢰고 속히 모시고 내려오소서 하며

14. 자기 아우 베냐민의 목을 안고 우니 베냐민도 요셉의 목을 안고 우니라

15. 요셉이 또 형들과 입맞추며 안고 우니 형들이 그제서야 요셉과 말하니라 

22. 예수께서 즉시 제자들을 재촉하사 자기가 무리를 보내는 동안에 배를 타고 앞서 건너편으로 가게 하시고

  Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.

23. 무리를 보내신 후에 기도하러 따로 산에 올라가시니라 저물매 거기 혼자 계시더니

  After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,

24. 배가 이미 육지에서 수 리나 떠나서 바람이 거스르므로 물결로 말미암아 고난을 당하더라

  but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25. 밤 사경에 예수께서 바다 위로 걸어서 제자들에게 오시니

  During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.

26. 제자들이 그가 바다 위로 걸어오심을 보고 놀라 유령이라 하며 무서워하여 소리 지르거늘

  When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.

27. 예수께서 즉시 이르시되 안심하라 나니 두려워하지 말라

  But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."

28. 베드로가 대답하여 이르되 주여 만일 주님이시거든 나를 명하사 물 위로 오라 하소서 하니

  "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."

29. 오라 하시니 베드로가 배에서 내려 물 위로 걸어서 예수께로 가되

  "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.

30. 바람을 보고 무서워 빠져 가는지라 소리 질러 이르되 주여 나를 구원하소서 하니

  But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"

31. 예수께서 즉시 손을 내밀어 그를 붙잡으시며 이르시되 믿음이 작은 자여 왜 의심하였느냐 하시고

  Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"

32. 배에 함께 오르매 바람이 그치는지라

  And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.

33. 배에 있는 사람들이 예수께 절하며 이르되 진실로 하나님의 아들이로소이다 하더라

  Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God." 

13. 예수께서 들으시고 배를 타고 떠나사 따로 빈 들에 가시니 무리가 듣고 여러 고을로부터 걸어서 따라간지라

  When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.

14. 예수께서 나오사 큰 무리를 보시고 불쌍히 여기사 그 중에 있는 병자를 고쳐 주시니라

  When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

15. 저녁이 되매 제자들이 나아와 이르되 이 곳은 빈 들이요 때도 이미 저물었으니 무리를 보내어 마을에 들어가 먹을 것을 사 먹게 하소서

  As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."

16. 예수께서 이르시되 갈 것 없다 너희가 먹을 것을 주라

  Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."

17. 제자들이 이르되 여기 우리에게 있는 것은 떡 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리뿐이니이다

  "We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered.

18. 이르시되 그것을 내게 가져오라 하시고

  "Bring them here to me," he said.

19. 무리를 명하여 잔디 위에 앉히시고 떡 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리를 가지사 하늘을 우러러 축사하시고 떡을 떼어 제자들에게 주시매 제자들이 무리에게 주니

  And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

20. 다 배불리 먹고 남은 조각을 열두 바구니에 차게 거두었으며

  They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

21. 먹은 사람은 여자와 어린이 외에 오천 명이나 되었더라

  The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. 

31. 또 비유를 들어 이르시되 천국은 마치 사람이 자기 밭에 갖다 심은 겨자씨 한 알 같으니

  He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.

32. 이는 모든 씨보다 작은 것이로되 자란 후에는 풀보다 커서 나무가 되매 공중의 새들이 와서 그 가지에 깃들이느니라

  Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."

33. 또 비유로 말씀하시되 천국은 마치 여자가 가루 서 말 속에 갖다 넣어 전부 부풀게 한 누룩과 같으니라

  He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough."

44. 천국은 마치 밭에 감추인 보화와 같으니 사람이 이를 발견한 후 숨겨 두고 기뻐하며 돌아가서 자기의 소유를 다 팔아 그 밭을 사느니라

  "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

45. 또 천국은 마치 좋은 진주를 구하는 장사와 같으니

  "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.

46. 극히 값진 진주 하나를 발견하매 가서 자기의 소유를 다 팔아 그 진주를 사느니라

  When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

47. 또 천국은 마치 바다에 치고 각종 물고기를 모는 그물과 같으니

  "Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.

48. 그물에 가득하매 물 가로 끌어 내고 앉아서 좋은 것은 그릇에 담고 못된 것은 내버리느니라

  When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.

49. 세상 끝에도 이러하리라 천사들이 와서 의인 중에서 악인을 갈라 내어

  This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous

50. 풀무 불에 던져 넣으리니 거기서 울며 이를 갈리라

  and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51. 이 모든 것을 깨달았느냐 하시니 대답하되 그러하오이다

  "Have you understood all these things?" Jesus asked. "Yes," they replied.

52. 예수께서 이르시되 그러므로 천국의 제자된 서기관마다 마치 새것과 옛것을 그 곳간에서 내오는 집주인과 같으니라

  He said to them, "Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old." 

10. 야곱이 브엘세바에서 떠나 하란으로 향하여 가더니

  Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran.

11. 한 곳에 이르러는 해가 진지라 거기서 유숙하려고 그 곳의 한 돌을 가져다가 베개로 삼고 거기 누워 자더니

  When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.

12. 꿈에 본즉 사닥다리가 땅 위에 서 있는데 그 꼭대기가 하늘에 닿았고 또 본즉 하나님의 사자들이 그 위에서 오르락내리락 하고

  He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

13. 또 본즉 여호와께서 그 위에 서서 이르시되 나는 여호와니 너의 조부 아브라함의 하나님이요 이삭의 하나님이라 네가 누워 있는 땅을 내가 너와 네 자손에게 주리니

  There above it stood the LORD, and he said: "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.

14. 네 자손이 땅의 티끌 같이 되어 네가 서쪽과 동쪽과 북쪽과 남쪽으로 퍼져나갈지며 땅의 모든 족속이 너와 네 자손으로 말미암아 복을 받으리라

  Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

15. 내가 너와 함께 있어 네가 어디로 가든지 너를 지키며 너를 이끌어 이 땅으로 돌아오게 할지라 내가 네게 허락한 것을 다 이루기까지 너를 떠나지 아니하리라 하신지라

  I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

16. 야곱이 잠이 깨어 이르되 여호와께서 과연 여기 계시거늘 내가 알지 못하였도다

  When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it."

17. 이에 두려워하여 이르되 두렵도다 이 곳이여 이것은 다름 아닌 하나님의 집이요 이는 하늘의 문이로다 하고

  He was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven."

18. 야곱이 아침에 일찍이 일어나 베개로 삼았던 돌을 가져다가 기둥으로 세우고 그 위에 기름을 붓고

  Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.

19. 그 곳 이름을 벧엘이라 하였더라 이 성의 옛 이름은 루스더라

  He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz. 

1. 그 날 예수께서 집에서 나가사 바닷가에 앉으시매

  That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake.

2. 큰 무리가 그에게로 모여 들거늘 예수께서 배에 올라가 앉으시고 온 무리는 해변에 서 있더니

  Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore.

3. 예수께서 비유로 여러 가지를 그들에게 말씀하여 이르시되 씨를 뿌리는 자가 뿌리러 나가서

  Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed.

4. 뿌릴새 더러는 길 가에 떨어지매 새들이 와서 먹어버렸고

  As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.

5. 더러는 흙이 얕은 돌밭에 떨어지매 흙이 깊지 아니하므로 곧 싹이 나오나

  Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.

6. 해가 돋은 후에 타서 뿌리가 없으므로 말랐고

  But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.

7. 더러는 가시떨기 위에 떨어지매 가시가 자라서 기운을 막았고

  Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.

8. 더러는 좋은 땅에 떨어지매 어떤 것은 백 배, 어떤 것은 육십 배, 어떤 것은 삼십 배의 결실을 하였느니라

  Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop--a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

9. 귀 있는 자는 들으라 하시니라

  He who has ears, let him hear."

18. 그런즉 씨 뿌리는 비유를 들으라

 "Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:

19. 아무나 천국 말씀을 듣고 깨닫지 못할 때는 악한 자가 와서 그 마음에 뿌려진 것을 빼앗나니 이는 곧 길 가에 뿌려진 자요

  When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.

20. 돌밭에 뿌려졌다는 것은 말씀을 듣고 즉시 기쁨으로 받되

  The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.

21. 그 속에 뿌리가 없어 잠시 견디다가 말씀으로 말미암아 환난이나 박해가 일어날 때에는 곧 넘어지는 자요

  But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.

22. 가시떨기에 뿌려졌다는 것은 말씀을 들으나 세상의 염려와 재물의 유혹에 말씀이 막혀 결실하지 못하는 자요

  The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.

23. 좋은 땅에 뿌려졌다는 것은 말씀을 듣고 깨닫는 자니 결실하여 어떤 것은 백 배, 어떤 것은 육십 배, 어떤 것은 삼십 배가 되느니라 하시더라

  But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown." 

16. 이 세대를 무엇으로 비유할까 비유하건대 아이들이 장터에 앉아 제 동무를 불러

  "To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:

17. 이르되 우리가 너희를 향하여 피리를 불어도 너희가 춤추지 않고 우리가 슬피 울어도 너희가 가슴을 치지 아니하였다 함과 같도다

  "'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'

18. 요한이 와서 먹지도 않고 마시지도 아니하매 그들이 말하기를 귀신이 들렸다 하더니

  For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.'

19. 인자는 와서 먹고 마시매 말하기를 보라 먹기를 탐하고 포도주를 즐기는 사람이요 세리와 죄인의 친구로다 하니 지혜는 그 행한 일로 인하여 옳다 함을 얻느니라

  The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." 'But wisdom is proved right by her actions."

25. 그 때에 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 천지의 주재이신 아버지여 이것을 지혜롭고 슬기 있는 자들에게는 숨기시고 어린 아이들에게는 나타내심을 감사하나이다

  At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

26. 옳소이다 이렇게 된 것이 아버지의 뜻이니이다

  Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.

27. 내 아버지께서 모든 것을 내게 주셨으니 아버지 외에는 아들을 아는 자가 없고 아들과 또 아들의 소원대로 계시를 받는 자 외에는 아버지를 아는 자가 없느니라

  "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

28. 수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라

  "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

29. 나는 마음이 온유하고 겸손하니 나의 멍에를 메고 내게 배우라 그리하면 너희 마음이 쉼을 얻으리니

  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30. 이는 내 멍에는 쉽고 내 짐은 가벼움이라 하시니라

  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." 

1. 그 일 후에 하나님이 아브라함을 시험하시려고 그를 부르시되 아브라함아 하시니 그가 이르되 내가 여기 있나이다

  Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied.

2. 여호와께서 이르시되 네 아들 네 사랑하는 독자 이삭을 데리고 모리아 땅으로 가서 내가 네게 일러 준 한 산 거기서 그를 번제로 드리라

  Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."

3. 아브라함이 아침에 일찍이 일어나 나귀에 안장을 지우고 두 종과 그의 아들 이삭을 데리고 번제에 쓸 나무를 쪼개어 가지고 떠나 하나님이 자기에게 일러 주신 곳으로 가더니

  Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

4. 제삼일에 아브라함이 눈을 들어 그 곳을 멀리 바라본지라

  On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

5. 이에 아브라함이 종들에게 이르되 너희는 나귀와 함께 여기서 기다리라 내가 아이와 함께 저기 가서 예배하고 우리가 너희에게로 돌아오리라 하고

  He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you."

6. 아브라함이 이에 번제 나무를 가져다가 그의 아들 이삭에게 지우고 자기는 불과 칼을 손에 들고 두 사람이 동행하더니

  Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together,

7. 이삭이 그 아버지 아브라함에게 말하여 이르되 내 아버지여 하니 그가 이르되 내 아들아 내가 여기 있노라 이삭이 이르되 불과 나무는 있거니와 번제할 어린 양은 어디 있나이까

  Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father?" "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied. "The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"

8. 아브라함이 이르되 내 아들아 번제할 어린 양은 하나님이 자기를 위하여 친히 준비하시리라 하고 두 사람이 함께 나아가서

  Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went on together.

9. 하나님이 그에게 일러 주신 곳에 이른지라 이에 아브라함이 그 곳에 제단을 쌓고 나무를 벌여 놓고 그의 아들 이삭을 결박하여 제단 나무 위에 놓고

  When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.

10. 손을 내밀어 칼을 잡고 그 아들을 잡으려 하니

  Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

11. 여호와의 사자가 하늘에서부터 그를 불러 이르시되 아브라함아 아브라함아 하시는지라 아브라함이 이르되 내가 여기 있나이다 하매

  But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied.

12. 사자가 이르시되 그 아이에게 네 손을 대지 말라 그에게 아무 일도 하지 말라 네가 네 아들 네 독자까지도 내게 아끼지 아니하였으니 내가 이제야 네가 하나님을 경외하는 줄을 아노라

  "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."

13. 아브라함이 눈을 들어 살펴본즉 한 숫양이 뒤에 있는데 뿔이 수풀에 걸려 있는지라 아브라함이 가서 그 숫양을 가져다가 아들을 대신하여 번제로 드렸더라

  Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

14. 아브라함이 그 땅 이름을 여호와 이레라 하였으므로 오늘날까지 사람들이 이르기를 여호와의 산에서 준비되리라 하더라

  So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided." 

24. 제자가 그 선생보다, 또는 종이 그 상전보다 높지 못하나니

  "A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.

25. 제자가 그 선생 같고 종이 그 상전 같으면 족하도다 집 주인을 바알세불이라 하였거든 하물며 그 집 사람들이랴

  It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household!

26. 그런즉 그들을 두려워하지 말라 감추인 것이 드러나지 않을 것이 없고 숨은 것이 알려지지 않을 것이 없느니라

  "So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.

27. 내가 너희에게 어두운 데서 이르는 것을 광명한 데서 말하며 너희가 귓속말로 듣는 것을 집 위에서 전파하라

  What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.

28. 몸은 죽여도 영혼은 능히 죽이지 못하는 자들을 두려워하지 말고 오직 몸과 영혼을 능히 지옥에 멸하실 수 있는 이를 두려워하라

  Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

29. 참새 두 마리가 한 앗사리온에 팔리지 않느냐 그러나 너희 아버지께서 허락하지 아니하시면 그 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라

  Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.

30. 너희에게는 머리털까지 다 세신 바 되었나니

 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31. 두려워하지 말라 너희는 많은 참새보다 귀하니라

  So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

32. 누구든지 사람 앞에서 나를 시인하면 나도 하늘에 계신 내 아버지 앞에서 그를 시인할 것이요

  "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.

33. 누구든지 사람 앞에서 나를 부인하면 나도 하늘에 계신 내 아버지 앞에서 그를 부인하리라

  But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

34. 내가 세상에 화평을 주러 온 줄로 생각하지 말라 화평이 아니요 검을 주러 왔노라

  "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

35. 내가 온 것은 사람이 그 아버지와, 딸이 어머니와, 며느리가 시어머니와 불화하게 하려 함이니

  For I have come to turn "'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law--

36. 사람의 원수가 자기 집안 식구리라

  a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.'

37. 아버지나 어머니를 나보다 더 사랑하는 자는 내게 합당하지 아니하고 아들이나 딸을 나보다 더 사랑하는 자도 내게 합당하지 아니하며

  "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;

38. 또 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따르지 않는 자도 내게 합당하지 아니하니라

  and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

39. 자기 목숨을 얻는 자는 잃을 것이요 나를 위하여 자기 목숨을 잃는 자는 얻으리라

  Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
